National Express Business Analyst - Fleet in Lisle, Illinois


The Business Analyst is responsible for supporting the maintenance and finance organization with data and reporting requirements for parts analysis, KPI reporting, trending patterns, best practices, and identifying areas for improvement. This includes working with corporate finance and IT organizations, regional maintenance managers, shop supervisors and asset management team to setup and maintain reporting and analytical needs.

The role provides opportunity to expand business, operational, financial and business system knowledge while working with members of multiple disciplines and levels within the organization. The team environment is one where one person can make a difference by utilizing analytic skills to identify actionable opportunities for improvement.

Position responsibilities include:

  • Create and maintain weekly and monthly maintenance spend reports that include correlation trends analysis.

  • Build various financial and statistical models. Will include building improved models and forecasting tools to help the NEC team increase forecasting accuracy.

  • Develop ad hoc internal reports for use by the executive team, for example on savings initiatives, overtime overspends, revenue/wage increases.

  • Develop and update key performance metrics, perform analysis.

  • Develop reporting for parts analysis, work order management, warranty recovery, core recovery, recall work orders.

  • Support Maintenance Engineering and Operations teams with analysis and recommendations on part and asset breakdown; cost/benefit analysis, etc.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field preferred.

  • 2-5 years of analyst or accounting/finance-related experience desired Strong analytical, organizational, data management and problem solving skills.

  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Excel. Familiarity with vlookups, pivot tables, and basic macro writing abilities, as well as the ability to build complex, scenario based, input driven models is a minimum requirement.

  • Experience using Microsoft Essbase and Oracle systems preferred.

  • Proven analytic and quantitative decision-making skills, including the ability to pull meaningful insights out of large data sets.

  • Some financial experience / understanding of basic forecasting and budgeting concepts.

  • Strong knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office suite including Excel, Office and PowerPoint

  • Broad business knowledge, organizational awareness and an understanding of business profitability drivers.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interface efficiently with all levels of management – ability to provide clear, concise explanations of complex problems to management.

  • Strong work ethic and results orientation required for fast paced, customer-focused environment
