National Express Chief Engineer in Lisle, Illinois
The Chief Engineer is integral to the success of Maintenance programs through management of technical deliverables within Maintenance, Procurement, Safety, and Environmental with cross function deliverables across the organization. The Chief Engineer will drive attainment of performance, financial and quality targets to meet defined milestones. He/she will work closely with external vendors on technical issues, new designs, recalls, and change-overs including all OEMs, tier 1-2-3 suppliers. They will also be active in various local, state, and federal governmental affairs related to the vehicles the company operates as well as the EV arena.

Has the ability to create relationship with all Major OEM and Aftermarket Parts Mfg.’s
Understands all current Fuel and EV Technology’s
Exercise’s trouble shooting skills for all Vehicular systems for mechanical electrical, performance, drivability and safety
Uses appropriate tools to determine system inadequacy and opportunities for optimization. Understands correct test procedures and can conduct hands on testing without assistance
Work closely with SVP of Maintenance and other Executives to develop a vehicle vision that meets the voice of the customer in terms of content, styling performance, cost and regulatory requirements.
Work closely with, and under the direction of, SVP of Maintenance on vehicle technical specification attainment and resource sufficiency, coordinating execution with other departments
Strong knowledge of electrical systems and wiring, engine and transmission, body and HVAC multiplex control modules ampacity of circuits, lighting, dash, chassis systems to ensure vehicle safety and cost efficiency per the required specs for customers
Manage the product program proactively to ensure timing coordinating requirements for sourcing and driving decisions that maintain program timing
Responsible to manage technical direction and launch of assigned vehicle programs
Coordinate engineering design and integration reviews, program direction and decisions to maintain vehicle objectives and timing.
Intercedes in critical program issues and drive resolution and monitors execution.
Ensure any deviations to plan are identified, highlighted and coordinate solution development.
Testing and analysis of vehicle related components for stress, fatigue, noise and vibration work that involves conventional engineering practices, but also complex features such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, and difficult coordination requirements
Empowered as engineering decision maker in cross-functional launch issue resolution and decision inputs from Purchasing, Maintenance, and Finance leaders for successful program execution.
Define, track and report metrics for review periodically with SVP of Maintenance leadership.
15 years automotive OEM & Tier 1 engineering, operations and program experience
15 years experience of total vehicle engineering leadership
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Engineering or Business desired
Demonstrated experience leading and launching engineering development programs to meet program performance, financial and timing targets
Technical depth in EV powertrain design / engineering and effective use of CAE / virtual engineering tools for product development decisions.
Confident and decisive communication skills, both interpersonal and in group presentation settings.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated ability to influence outcomes while handling confidential and sensitive situations with discretion and grace
Superior organizational aptitude and detail orientation
Strong sense of urgency, ability to anticipate needs, exceptional follow-through
Advanced proficiency with MS Office Suite (PowerPoint, excel, word, MS Project, MS Visio), familiarity with JIRA, Polarian, CATIA
